The Thin Yellow Line

They say you need an "eye" for a good picture – to find an unusual scene in the world around you. I don't know if you can learn this, but sometimes I just go by the rules. Something contrasty, some nice compositional element and – well, it’s supposed to work, and the viewer will find the picture pleasing. I learned that the S-Curve is the "most beautiful" composition element from the Tips from the Top Floor podcast. Chris said you can't go wrong with an S-Curve. Well, I don't know, but it might be true because – I just find this picture interesting...

note: To a casual observer, this photo might not look like anything special, but to me, it will always be significant. It was my first ever sale – 36 cents on a microstock site. At that time, I wasn't really taking pictures much anymore, and it was this tiny success that actually got me back into photography.
